Blink and you’ll miss it, Under The Stairs is a basement bar just across Merchant Street from Oz Bar. It’s a quirky place, of the self-proclaimed “shabby chic” variety, with velour armchairs, a large fishtank filling the old fireplace, mismatching furniture, exposed stone walls, dim lighting, low ceilings, etc, etc.
From my very foggy memory on the night, it felt a little hipsterish, certainly one of the trendier bars round these parts.
This was pub 18 of 19 on our random February blowout. We were only aiming for 8 but got very carried away. Blog quality is at a new low. I’m not proud of the achievement, it was stupid.
Inveralmond Sunburst, Fürstenberg, Williams Joker IPA and Caesar Augustus, Guinness, Estrella Damm, Erdinger and Aspall Cyder. Bottled beers were nothing exciting, but I did spot Krombacher alcohol free, which is relatively unusual.
No price for our round, but from photos of the menu it’s about £4.33 per pint on average, cheapest $3.95, and Erdinger the most expensive at £4.75. Cocktails hovered around the £7.50 mark.
The food seems relatively reasonably priced with mains mostly under £10 (going by the menu on their website).
