This bar is part of the Smart City Hostel on Blackfriars Street, but we came in through the back door and courtyard from the Cowgate. We weren’t sure what it was at first, thinking it was some kind of student union. So we asked the bouncer and he said it was a halls of residence and hostel bar. There’s no mention of the halls side of things on their website.
Inside it’s all very modern, mostly white or neutral with the odd splash of bold reds and purples, tiled floor, slick lighting. It was busyish, but we had no trouble getting a table.
This was pub 10 of 19 on our random February blowout. We were only aiming for 8 but got very carried away. Quality will suffer, sorry. I’m not proud of the achievement, it was stupid.
The draught beer selection was disappointing, all kegs: Budweiser, Stella Artois, West St. Mungo, Strongbow, Guinness, Belhaven Best. However, I saw a thing on their facebook page saying there’s Williams Brothers bottles available. Wish I’d spotted them on the night.
Average draught pint £3.43. Cocktails all £5.50.
Mains £5 to £8, fish and chips, fajitas, pizza (9″) from £4.25 to £6.25. Tuesdays are 50% off food day, according to their facebook page.
Open mic night, quiz night, pool table.
