#119: The Counting House, West Nicolson Street, Edinburgh

The Counting House, West Nicolson Street, Edinburgh (exterior)

Ok, technically not a pub, but a large function room/venue above the Blind Poet and the Peartree. We didn’t really realise, the door was open, and so we wandered in to what turned out to be a Harley Davidson owner’s Christmas party. It wasn’t until after we’d ordered our beers that we realised. They turned out to be a friendly bunch though.

The Counting House, West Nicolson Street, Edinburgh (interior, ballroom)

Inside consists of essentially three rooms, a large “ballroom”, the bar and another room with tables. There’s lots of wood panelling, old lamps and pictures and some bold but tasteful colour choices. It gives the impression of a vaguely classy retro venue, in the dark at least. I’ve been here a few times over the years for things like Vegas, and even a smaller private function.

As part of Caledonian Heritable, it’s a sister pub of the Pear Tree, Blind Poet, Ryan’s Bar, Tiles etc.

This was “pub” 11 of 15 on our Christmas night out.

The Bar

The only cask was Caledonian Deuchars, the rest being Blue Moon, Calton Gold, Stella Artois and Guinness.

I’ve got no details of what the round cost.

Food

They’ve got a kitchen for catering as required, but it’s not generally open.

Amenities

Hire the place out for private or public functions.

Castle View

Nope.
