No preconceptions here, I’ve never been in before and knew nothing about the place. A very European feel going on, chilled tunes, easy on the eye, but no real beer and a bit pricy. It’s a “sister establishment” of Sygn just up the road and Monteiths on the High Street, so certainly an up-market target audience.
5 taps, all keg: Stella Artois 4%, Estrella Damm, Guinness, Belhaven Best, Tennent’s Lager. Several bottled beers like Leffe, Blue Moon, Brooklyn Lager, Goose Island IPA, Heineken, Peroni, Corona, Innis & Gunn. I’m deducing all this from photos, and now wish I’d spotted the Brooklyn Lager while we were in there.
Once again, the drink was taking its toll, and I didn’t write down the price of the round. Thanks to Darren for remembering for me: it was something over £19 for a Guinness, two halves (of Estrella Damm?) and two gin and tonics. Oof! Those gins probably make it look a bit worse than it really is, but I’d still say over £4 a pint.
A small menu (sneakily checking their website after the fact), mostly just under a tenner. They’re a “sister establishment” of Monteiths on the High Street, so it’s probably fairly decent fare.
In daylight you can see the castle’s flag peeking oot above the offices above Ryan’s Bar. Photographic evidence coming soon…
